100 BUZZWORDS #10 IQ TAX 「智商税」

It refers to the situation where unjustified money is spent due to a lack of judgment when shopping. The unjustified amount paid is considered a tax for the low "IQ tax" scenario.

"IQ tax" is often used to describe products that are not worth buying at a high price. There are other cheap alternatives on the market that can achieve the same or better performance. These high-priced goods may be useless placebos and may even bring further damages.

e.g. it has been applied commonly with cosmetics purchases, bird's nest, weight loss products, lottery tickets, etc.
