100 BUZZWORDS #03 GRASS SEEDING「种草」

Literally meaning planting grass

It could link so closely with “online shopping”. Zhong Cao more recently became Chinese internet slang, referring to “the effect when someone sees something owned by a friend or family member, or an advertisement for a product, and wants it”. This can be a very odd name to foreign audiences, but in Chinese culture, growing grass represents the process of ‘nothing to everything’. Once the grass seeds are planted, it will grow uncontrollably.

This process of growth is very similar to the process of ‘Zhong Cao’ in marketing, where once the seed of awareness is planted, people will become aware of its existence.
